The first chapter in Revelation presents God’s greatest attribute as the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. These are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet.
What’s the connection? Simply said, Jesus IS the Word of God, but more than that, in reading an article written by Dr. J. Vernon McGee, he explained that in the original Greek in Revelation 1:8, Omega isn’t spelled out as is Alpha.
What’s the significance? “Because Christ is the beginning, and the beginning is already completed. But the end is yet to be; so, He didn’t spell out the Omega in this instance. One day He will complete God’s program. This is a very interesting detail in the Greek text.” [McGhee]
So when I read in the book of Hebrews this morning I found this in 12:2: “…fix[ing] our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.”
